Kinoko Gold AHCC Supplement Review | Does it Work?

We've discussed the efficacy of AHCC in boosting your immune system and also as a potential cure for HPV. However, many manufacturers and companies offer AHCC in various forms and under different brands, so it can be hard to know which ones are effective and which ones you should stay away from.

Today, we take a look at Kinoko Gold AHCC, a brand of AHCC extract supplement manufactured and sold under the Quality of Life brand.

What you get in each Kinoko Gold bottle

Kinoko Gold AHCC is sold in bottles that contain 60 capsules each. Each capsule is a "soft-gel" style Vegicap capsule, approximately three quarters of an inch long. If you are accustomed to swallowing Vegicaps, you should find these no different from other supplements you may have taken before.

Each capsule contains the AHCC supplement, which is a fine, soft brown powder. Its appearance is similar to fine, brown sugar.

With all of the discussion of AHCC being extracted from mushrooms, you may be wondering about the taste of the capsules. This might be a concern, especially if you don't like the taste of mushrooms!

First, we tried tasting the powder taken out of the capsule, and can confirm that it does not have a mushroom taste. It's a relatively neutral and somewhat savory taste that is hard to describe, but there is certainly no resemblance to mushroom.

Second, because the supplement is encapsulated inside of the Vegicap, the capsules are essentially tasteless when swallowed.

If your dislike of mushrooms is stopping you from trying AHCC - don't let it! You will not taste any mushroom while taking AHCC.

How much AHCC is in each bottle of Kinoko Gold?

Each tablet contains half a gram (500 mg) of AHCC. Therefore, if you want to aim for a dosage of 3 grams of AHCC daily, you will want to take 2 tablets of Kinoko Gold, 3x per day.

Quality of Life also produces a version called Kinoko Platinum AHCC, with 750 mg of AHCC per capsule. If you prefer taking fewer capsules per day, this could be a better option.

What are the ingredients in Kinoko Gold?

In addition to the AHCC, the tablets are encapsulated in Vegicap capsules, a plant-based gel that dissolves once ingested.

The official "Supplement Facts" indicate the following ingredients:

Mycelia extract of hybridized basidiomycetes (Lentinula edodes) mushrooms (with acetylated alpha-glucans), carnauba plant wax, dextrin (tapioca), cellulose(plant), alpha-cyclodextrin (vegetable)

Kinoko Gold is dairy, gluten and GMO free.

Difference between Kinoko Gold and Kinoko Platinum

We noted above that a similar product called Kinoko Platinum is also available. What's the difference? Which one should you buy?

The only difference between these two products is that the Kinoko Platinum capsules contain 750 mg of AHCC, compared to Kinoko Gold, which only has 500 mg of AHCC.

If you're looking for a better deal, we recommend the Kinoko Platinum. At first glance, the Platinum might seem more expensive due to the higher price tag per bottle. But we did the math and found out that the Platinum definitely gives you more "bang for the buck" when we look at the cost per mg of AHCC content.

For every gram (1000 mg) of AHCC, the Kinoko Platinum costs $1.33, compared to the Kinoko Gold, which costs $1.58. That's a 18% difference!

It might not seem like much, but at 3 grams a day, the cost difference is a staggering $22.45!

For those who are just interested in trying out AHCC and are not sure if they will continue taking the supplement, the Kinoko Gold might be a better option, since your overall cost for the first bottle will be lower. But if you plan on taking AHCC over the long run, definitely opt for the Kinoko Platinum as it offers substantial cost savings.

Who manufactures Kinoko Gold?

Kinoko Gold is manufactured by Quality Of Life Laboratories, Inc, a company registered in New York state. It is manufactured in the USA under license from Amino Up, Co., Ltd, a Japanese company that developed and patented the extraction process of AHCC.

In case you were wondering, Kinoko is a Japanese word meaning mushroom.

Effectiveness of Kinoko Gold

It is difficult to definitely measure the effectiveness of a supplement on a single person's immune system. Over 30 studies have researched and suggest the effectiveness of AHCC in helping activate and support the immune system.

It is suggested that AHCC is a particularly effective supplement for HPV. See here for our overview of how AHCC can help with HPV.
